Why Sunday School?
Why do we still have Sunday School for adults, youth, and kids?
God commanded us to make disciples. Does one hour before service provide enough instruction to equip a disciple? No, but it sure is a great start. We also invite you to get involved in small groups on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
The blueprint for the Biblical Church and the one we follow at Oakdale is in Acts 2:42-47 (Read Our Purpose Here). Not only does it state that we should have continual devotion to the Word, it also states that we are to have fellowship with each other. We are meant to hang out with one other and live life together. This includes the good times, hard times, and times where accountability is appreciated and needed. Sunday School is the best way to get involved and become a part of the Church family.
We pray that Sunday School, along with Sunday and Wednesday night Small Groups, will serve as a catalyst for individual Bible study time along with your involvement in the church. Lifelong friendships are made in close groups such as these.
Matthew 28:19-20 - The Great Commission Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Sunday School Purpose
The purpose is to build stronger believers and community within the Church. The best way to get involved with any local church is by developing relationships that we were built for.
Continuing education is something that everyone should aspire to do in whatever field that happen to be in.
A football player should never be satisfied with knowing only what they know now. The coach of that player will definitely not be satisfied. No matter what industry someone works in, they should constantly be willing to further their knowledge.
We are not out to make disciples that use their knowledge of the Bible to “puff” up their pride or “hold” knowledge over someone’s head.
However, the Bible states that we are to “correctly handle the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). In 2 Timothy 2:16-17, we read that “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
It is our desire that every believer God has called to Oakdale dedicates himself to God’s Word on a daily basis in order to be equipped with confidence and knowledge to tell more people about the Hope that we have in Jesus Christ.
